How to Find a Registered Optician in Texas

Texas does not require opticians to be registered. As Consumer Reports says, "It's quite possible for some stores to hire a person with no optical experience to fit glasses or advise buyers--the chains may be hiring people who were flipping burgers the week before."

However, Texas does allow opticians to be voluntarily registered, which requires that the optician pass a certifying examination and receive annual continuing education.

For a list of Texas opticians who have undergone this certification process, see http://www.tdh.state.tx.us/hcqs/plc/optrostc.txt
