Village (Ages Newborn to 18 months old)

Fall: How many ways can Baby and Parent zoom in Kindermusik Village? Hop in the Zoom Buggy, and find out! Through a variety of songs, chants, and instrumental selections you and Baby will experience the rumbling of a baby buggy, the squeaky stroller, the bumpa bumpa bumpa of the wagon, the train chugging up the track and much more. Baby is the star in Dream Pillow, with each activity carefully planned to stimulate his developing brain, thereby promoting physical, social, cognitive, emotional, and language development. But it is the parent who is watching and guiding this little star on the rise, and Dream Pillow, like all of the Kindermusik Village units, is written with the parent very much in mind.

Spring: With an introduction to sign language and highlighted by the concept of a family’s daily rituals and routines, The Rhythm of My Day is designed to help parents incorporate music into many of the regular routines found throughout their daily life. Lessons also highlight several other key concepts like diversity of sound, stop and go, syncopation, and singing. Favorite activities and songs featured in The Rhythm of My Day include Let Me Call You Sweetheart, Golden Slumbers, Walk All Around, and Ally Bally. Hickory, Dickory, Tickle and Bounce focuses on further feeding a baby’s language development through the rhythmic nature of nursery rhymes. You and your child will also discover plenty of implied movement activities throughout the semester with many additional movement concepts incorporated into the literature book (concepts like up and down). Favorite songs and activities from Hickory, Dickory, Tickle and Bounce include Peek-a-Boo, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Beat the Drum, Roll That Ball, Sulla Lulla, and The Blackbird.

Our Time (Ages 18 months to 3 years old)

Fall: Imagine the aroma of baking cookies, the coziness of the family kitchen, the chatter among sisters, brothers, grandmas, granddads, Mom and Dad, and the anticipation and excitement of having friends come to visit. These moments at home are times to be shared and treasured. These special moments are captured in Milk and Cookies. As in other units of Our Time, the central focus of Milk and Cookies is the toddler’s need for security balanced with his need for independence. Milk and Cookies songs and activities promote interaction between parent and child where the parent gently guides their child’s learning. (This process is called scaffolding.) Capturing the security, excitement and familiarity of "at home" moments is the ideal theme for empowering the parent to act as teacher through scaffolding. What better way for parents to lead their child than with familiar, everyday home activities such as cooking in the kitchen, dusting, and washing clothes?

Spring: Creatures of the animal kingdom, whether furry, web-footed, hoofed, winged or whiskered, are the subject matter for Fiddle-Dee-Dee, the fourth unit of Kindermusik Our Time. Animal sounds, which are so appealing to children, naturally prompt imitation and provide abundant active listening and vocal- play material. In the context of moving like animals we will focus on concepts such as high, low, smooth, bumpy, fast, and slow. On the At Home CD’s you’ll hear a clear emphasis on the stringed instrument family, with instruments such as the mandolin, banjo, lute, classical and folk guitar, harp, string quartet and double bass. And, of course, there is the home instrument, a pair of Fiddlesticks. Sporting the bright stripes of a bumblebee, Fiddlesticks are a one-of-a-kind Kindermusik instrument that can be rattled, rolled, tapped and fiddled with to create fun sounds and play possibilities.

Imagine That! (Ages 3 to 4.5 years old)

Fall: Books, storytelling, language, drama, puppets – these are all essential ingredients to the Imagine That! curriculum. Each acts as a dramatic catalyst for integrating thematic songs, activities, events and feelings. Hello, Weather! Let’s Play Together encourages children and their families to explore the connected, smooth sounds of legato and the separated sounds of staccato. They’ll learn about fast and slow tempos. And the Kindermusik Ankle Bells and Rain Shaker will help children develop steady beat and enhance creative musical expression. Hello, Weather! Let’s Play Together offers a number of familiar songs, including Jingle Bells, the Mulberry Bush and Over the River and Through the Woods. Literature books are also an important part of the semester. Children and parents alike are sure to love the two new books, both of which are musically driven. At Home materials take home the fun and learning through the specially designed instruments, a play set, two literature books, a Family Activitiy Book, and two CD’s. Adding to the thrill for preschoolers are at-home projects such as making wind chimes, rain hats, sleigh bells, and snow boots!

Spring: "People on the go, rushing everywhere – in the city!" Meet Cities! Busy Places ~ Friendly Faces, a city that’s really many "cities" in one. There’s a city of music, of songs, of recorded works and of city sounds. There’s a city of the imagination – of three- and four-year-olds being whoever they imagine themselves to be today: a broom man, or maybe an opera singer? There’s a city of stories – of lost dogs and found dogs and of a globe-trotting photographer. Best of all, in Cities, children from all kinds of communities will find commonalities with their lives. So join us as we set off on yet another grand, musical adventure! Specially designed Kindermusik Resonator Bars are the featured instruments in the At Home materials. In addition to the resonator bars, At Home materials will include two CD’s, two literature books, a Home Activity book, and a Game Board with Game pieces.

Kindermusik for the Young Child (Ages 4 to 7 years old)

Fall: Semester I of Kindermusik for The Young Child opens the world to new and different ways of learning about music. The focus and content includes beat versus no beat, percussion instruments, brass instruments, melodic direction, exploring the staff, and notation. Semester I also introduces the glockenspiel, a pre-keyboard instrument. Some of the favorite themes in Semester I are "Music is Everywhere," "Meet the Mallets," and "Discovering Melody and Mozart."

Spring: Building on the concepts introduced in Semester I, Semester II in Kindermusik for the Young Child (ages 4 – 7 years) will excite the young mind as it focuses on concepts such as piano/forte, crescendo/decrescendo, and legato/staccato. We will explore string and woodwind instruments, notation, and even a bit of Beethoven. Children love applying their new knowledge of aural skills, and of reading and writing music notation as they further develop their glockenspiel skills. Lesson highlights from Semester II include Peter and the Wolf, "The Orchestra," and "Sing and Celebrate!"

Fall: Children are delighted to learn more about stringed instruments with the introduction to their very own dulcimers in Semester III. Other musical concepts taught include call and response, improvisation, meter, notation, and a touch of Tchaikovsky. Themes in Semester III include "Music of Appalachia," "Music of the Sea," and "Native American Music."

Spring: Semester IV of Kindermusik for the Young child is the fourth and final semester of this exceptional program. Together we will explore the sounds of wind with the introduction of the recorder! Semester IV truly is a great end to a terrific curriculum as students learn about verse and refrains, solos and chorus, and musical form (ABA and Rondo.) We will also review notation, rhythms, treble clef, and the complete C Scale. Lesson highlights from Semester IV include traveling (musically) to the Far East, Africa and Central and South America.
